He was a founding member of the Bluffton public safety committee. He was also active in the Michael C. Riley Elementary School, the Bluffton YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Club of Bluffton. A Soccer Field

The park also includes a new dog park, which was a collaboration between the Friends of Bluffton Dog Parks and the Town of Bluffton. The park is also close to the Hidden Lakes neighborhood.

A Playground

The park was originally known as Shults Tract Park. A quarter-mile of sidewalk is being installed around the perimeter of the park to provide a pedestrian route to the Rotary Community Center. It is expected to reopen Wednesday, October 9.

In the spring, the Bluffton Leadership Class came up with a design for a play structure. It was a group effort, and the project was a success. The Bluffton High School senior class raised $20,000 to put toward the project. It’s the first inclusive play structure in the town.

A Tennis Court

Having a tennis court at Oscar Frazier Park is a nice perk. Bluffton’s year-round temperate climate makes it a nice place to spend some time outdoors.

The Town of Bluffton is currently installing a quarter-mile of concrete sidewalks and oyster shell pavement around Oscar Frazier Park. The new sidewalks will connect the pavilion to the Rotary Community Center.

The Town of Bluffton has also installed adaptive playground swings in a nod to its citizens with disabilities. This is the first of its kind in the city.

There is no question that the Town of Bluffton has done its part to make this a wonderful community. With 64 miles of paved public pathways and twice being named a “Bicycle Friendly Community,” Bluffton is a fun place to live, work and play.

A Celebration of Life

Almost nine years after the death of Oscar Frazier, Bluffton will celebrate his life with a memorial event. The ceremony will take place on August 28th, one day before the nine year anniversary of his passing.

During his lifetime, Frazier was an influential figure in Bluffton, South Carolina. He was a town councilman, poet laureate, and a pillar of the community. He was known for annexing poorer areas of Bluffton. He also was instrumental in designing Oscar Frazier Park, a recreation area located at the end of Pritchard Street in Bluffton.

When he was 49, Frazier died from a rare form of liver cancer. His son, Kenneth Jr., spoke on his behalf during the event. The gathering will include musical performances and personal tributes. Afterwards, a barbecue dinner will be served. Find out more!
