What to Use for Power Washing Patio Pavers
Patio pavers can be a beautiful addition to any home, but they require some regular maintenance to keep them looking their best. One of the most important steps in maintaining your patio pavers is power washing them on a regular basis. But what’s the best way to go about power washing patio pavers? Read on for tips and advice on how to power wash your patio pavers like a pro!
In order to power wash patio pavers, you’re going to need a few different supplies. First of all, you’ll want to invest in a pressure washer. You can pick one up at your local hardware store for around $100 or so. Of course, if it’s more convenient for you, most home improvement stores will deliver to your doorstep for a small fee.
The next thing you’ll need is some sort of detergent to help break up dirt, grime, and the like; otherwise, the dirt will just accumulate over time, making your patio pavers look even worse than before. If you live in an area that has particularly mild winters, you may be able to get away with skipping the detergent altogether. But if you live in a colder climate, chances are good that the snow and/or rain will make it nearly impossible for power washing to do its job properly. In this case, you’ll need a gentle cleanser specifically designed for cleaning pavers, such as TSP (trisodium phosphate) or a similar solution. You can find this at any hardware store or home improvement store, and it should only cost you a couple of bucks.
The final piece of the puzzle is some sort of cleaning accessory to help boost your power washing efforts even more! The best option is to get yourself an extension wand (1-2 meters), which will allow you to get into more nooks and crannies where dirt, grime, and mildew can accumulate. This accessory will also help you remove any stubborn build-up that cannot be removed with the power washer alone. You should be able to find an extension wand at your local hardware or home improvement store for less than $20.
Do you need to use a ladder or not?
You can go about power washing patio pavers in two ways: either by standing on the ground beside your patio or by using a ladder to reach the top portion of your pavers. If you are working with stone tiles that are larger than 8″ across, it’s probably not even worth trying to use a ladder. This is because it can be very difficult to apply enough pressure with the power washer and maintain your balance at the same time. In this case, you should opt for standing beside your patio pavers instead of using a ladder. If you have smaller, standard-size pavers though (8″ across or less), a ladder may be a good option for you.
How much pressure should I use?
It’s important to apply enough pressure with your power washer in order to remove dirt and grime effectively, but if you apply too much pressure the water can damage the finish on your patio pavers or cause other problems. The general rule of thumb is that you should have at least a 3 out of 5 PSI setting on your power washer. If you are using an extension wand, it’s also important to factor in the pressure when applying your cleaning solution.
